Questions owners ask
How do I calculate 5% VAT in the UAE?
Multiply the price before VAT by 0.05 for the VAT, or by 1.05 for the total. On AED 1,000 the VAT is AED 50 and the total is AED 1,050.
How do I remove VAT from a total?
Divide the VAT-inclusive total by 1.05 to get the price before VAT. The VAT is the difference, which is the same as 1/21 of the total. AED 1,050 includes AED 50 of VAT.
When can I issue a simplified tax invoice?
When the buyer is not VAT-registered, at any amount, or when the buyer is registered and the total is AED 10,000 or less. Above AED 10,000 to a registered business, you need a full tax invoice.
How soon must I issue a tax invoice?
Within 14 days of the date of supply. Keep invoices and records for at least 5 years.
Can I invoice in US dollars?
Yes, but the VAT amount must also be shown in AED, converted at the UAE Central Bank rate on the date of supply.
What is the fine for a wrong tax invoice?
The FTA penalty table sets AED 2,500 for each tax invoice that is not issued or is missing required details. From 2027, e-invoicing adds its own penalties.
